Influences on Your Thinking and The Science of Getting Rich

In the book, “The Science of Getting Rich”, the book refers to “Thinking in the Certain Way”. The key word being “Thinking”. We think countless thoughts on a daily basis and most of them are habitual thoughts that have been with us since childhood.

There are influences that we expose ourselves to on a daily basis that shape our thinking. Now our thoughts are either expanding and we are becoming more aware of possibilities or our minds are closing and we limiting our possibilities with prejudice and frustration.

A lot of this has to do with what we are exposing ourselves too.

Below is a list of possible influences:

1. TV – The television. Today’s television is loaded with a lot of garbage. Even shows that you may think are good that you find on the History channel or Discovery are often laced with political views and agendas that are put together to make you feel guilty about the way things are.

Quite frankly, the TV is like a sewer in the house. If you are using your TV in conjunction with your DVD to watch training videos on how to better communicate with others, or training to help you produce a result that garners a profit for you, you are certainly in a small minority that are on the right path.

2. Radio – The radio is also a media that uses divisive programming whose soul purpose is to expose you to commercials in a manner that someone else profits from your consumption. Even some of the talk radio shows both conservative and liberal spend way too much time on the back biting that there is little talk about the possible solutions. And the only real solution is that everyone that has both their physical and mental faculties are responsible for their own happiness regardless of outside circumstances.

3. The Internet – The Internet is also a media that thrives on commercial income. The only difference here is that with the right browser setup you can set your computer to only let in the information that will best suit your needs. You can also join groups that will help you increase your awareness about your desired subject.

But it can also be worse than the television with the garbage that can enter your home through the screen if you enter the bad neighborhoods.

4. Well meaning family, friends and co-workers – Our circle of friends and family are often the most influential force in our lives. Most are very well meaning because they do care about you but many will often base their opinion on what you are doing on their own fears and abilities.

You want to expose yourself to people who have been where you want to be.

You may have to do this in baby steps.

For example, If you desire to become a billionaire and you are barely making $40K a year, don’t shoot to get beside Bill Gates tomorrow and start to pick his brain. Start with someone who is making $100K a year and get around them and listen and observe what they are doing and start doing it. Once you get up to $100K, start to get around people making $200K and repeat the process until you get to the financial situation you desire.

Influences on your thinking can be very subtle and you need to guard it with all your might. You wouldn’t let someone come into your living room and dump a barrel of garbage on your carpet so don’t let anyone do it to your mind.

A bigger part of this is the habitual thinking that has been going on for as long as you have been alive. These are the thoughts that are rolling around in your head without your conscious coming to bear on them. These are the thoughts you need to start to expose and find out if the are serving you or holding your hostage. What do you think?
